Have you ever met an online friend in real life for the first time? Cartoonist Monica Ekabutr illustrated three IRL stories from Slacktory fans below.

Rebecca Lando:

Daniel Fincannon is a Tumblrererer based in North Carolina. He let me use one of his original songs for my show, Working Class Foodies. So when he came to New York to visit his girlfriend, also a Tumblrerererer, I took them out for a beer and gave him a jar of homemade pickles. I had tried to send him jars of pickles in the mail twice before but the first jar never got to him and the 2nd jar was mailed back to me by the postmaster because it had exploded.

Cat Schwamm:

Once it was a guy I ended up dating. We had emailed extensively and he seemed funny, so when I went to meet him I thought I’d test his comedy movie knowledge by saying “I’m here for the gangbang” when he opened the door. He stared at me for a moment and closed the door in my face.

Cat Schwamm 2:

The second time I invited a girl for a group brunch at our place. She ended up being an hour late and we had all already eaten and people were ready to leave, so she awkwardly ate cold french toast and attempted to make conversation with food in her mouth. Then everyone left and she was weirdly there, then she left. She tweeted at me “we totally have to hang out again soon!” and i unfollowed her.

Eliot Glazer:

It was great — I went to his house for a Riding the Bus With My Sister viewing party in 2005, and I had the best time of my life. I had just graduated from college and was living at home on long island, and most of my friends had stayed in their college towns or moved elsewhere, so I didn’t really have too many close friends around.

But Michael was so awesome, and he restored my faith in the idea that there were amazing, smart, hilarious people hiding in the suburbs.

Fittingly, we went to go see a free Aretha Franklin concert in Coney Island last night, not really for Aretha but because the free concerts in Coney Island bring out all the weirdo zombie people.
